International Day of Acceptance

Did you know that today is International Day of Acceptance?!

January 20th is a day dedicated to the social acceptance of disability and to honor the late Annie Hopkins, founder of 3E Love and creator of the International Symbol of Acceptance. [the wheelchair heart] - dayofacceptance.com

The International Day of Acceptance began to be recognized in 2010 and reminds us to:

  1. Embrace diversity

  2. Educate the community

  3. Empower one another

This year it is fitting that the International Day of Acceptance also falls on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. MLK, Jr. may have been an advocate for civil rights but he was also an advocate for diversity, equality and acceptance in our communities.

In the United States alone, 48.9 million people have at least one form of disability. From physical impairments to mental ones, these challenges pose limitations on their lives and the world’s accessibility. -dreamscapefoundation.com

Let’s all follow Annie Hopkins and MLK, Jr. lead and strive to create a world full of inclusion, accessibility and acceptance. We are all human, we all have just this one life to live so let’s all remember to Embrace, Educate & Empower, not just today on the International Day of Acceptance but each and everyday!
