3. Volunteering Grant Programs
These initiatives, which are also known as “Dollars for Doers” programs, are charitable giving programs set up by companies to reward employees for giving back to their communities. Companies provide monetary donations to nonprofits like ours as a way to recognize employees who volunteer, giving back to their communities and supporting organizations their employees are already passionate about. Volunteer grants are widely offered among Fortune 500 companies and are catching on at smaller companies, too.
When you participate in a volunteer grant program, it means our organization will not only benefit from the help you provide with your time but also with monetary support from your employer. As a result, it’s an easy way for volunteers like yourself to secure a monetary contribution to our cause without having to take out your checkbook. While the programs and processes can vary from one company to another, volunteer grant programs generally consist of five simple steps:
1. An employee (that’s you) volunteers with a nonprofit organization like ours.
2. The employee researches if their company offers volunteer grants and determines their eligibility for the program if so. (For this step, you can search for your employer’s volunteer grant guidelines in a volunteer grant database tool.)
3. The employee submits a volunteer grant request, either electronically or using a paper form.
4. The organization (that’s us) validates the grant request. In other words, we confirm for your employer that you completed the volunteer hours indicated in your grant request.
5. The company approves the grant request and cuts a check for our organization!
If you’re already volunteering with us, please take a few seconds to check if your employer (or your spouse’s employer) offers volunteer grants. Use the following database search tool to find out!
Together, these generous and widely available grants could provide hundreds or even thousands of dollars to further our mission.
