Client Spotlight: BRIAN WELDEN

Brian has always had a passion for physical fitness and was extremely active in his sons sports teams before he suffered a stroke. His strong mind set and hard work ethic have made a huge difference in his recovery!

Take us through an average day in your life before your injury?

Before the injury, days consisted of work as a Software Project Manager for Disney, spending many hours on the baseball/football fields with his sons, and squeezing his passion for voice over/announcing games.

How did the injury (stroke) occur?

Although Brian lifted weights since he was a teenager and even competed as a bodybuilder, while doing deadlifts he tore his vertebral artery in his neck which caused a massive stroke.

How did you find NextStep Orlando?

While traveling to therapy (3 times a week) 150 miles away from Orlando, we found out about Nextstep Orlando through another client .

How has NextStep Orlando and Activity Based Therapy helped you in your recovery?

Brian’s Activity Based Therapy at NextStep Orlando has help him become more independent and his goal of walking himself is closer than ever!

What are your goals?

Some of Brian’s other goals are to strengthen his right arm and to be able to independently stand and pivot to transfer.

What is your advice to someone who hasn't tried Activity Based Therapy?

Brian tried traditional therapy but he was treated like an 70 year old that had a stroke and the only goal was to live with what function you have left. He is still young and was an athlete. Activity Based Therapy pushes him toward his goal of walking.

What motivates you?

Brian continues to have improvement 6 years later and has become more independent . Seeing progress motivates him to continue therapy at Next Step Orlando.
