THOMAS EDDY

PRESIDENT AND FOUNDER

I have always been fortunate enough to be able to accept life’s challenges, and make the best of any situation. Understanding that, change is inevitable and growth is optional. On June 21st, 2005, I was given the opportunity to prove that statement to be true. That morning, I left my house walking, and by that afternoon I was paralyzed from the waist down. My injury led me to open a Spinal Cord Injury Recovery Center to meet the needs of everyone with a spinal cord injury. If your desire is to improve your chance for recovery, then NextStep Kansas City is the place for you. We promise to do everything possible to make any goal you set, become a reality.

CHRIS SMITH

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AND HEAD TRAINER

Chris graduated from Kansas State University with a BS in Kinesiology. He is certified through NSCA as a personal trainer and strength and conditioning specialist. He has been a spinal cord injury recovery specialist since 2008, and was a personal trainer working with a variety of age groups and populations prior to that. Chris is committed to helping others improve their lives through exercise and increased physical activity. He feels that continued education with respect to any aspect of life, and a positive outlook, can help anyone achieve anything they set their minds to.

Favorite quote: What the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve."

COLBY ROSS

ACTIVITY-BASED TRAINER

Colby is a graduate from Avila University with a BS in Sports Medicine. He is a certified personal trainer through NSCA. After an internship, he has worked his way up to being a specialist at NextStep Kansas City. Colby enjoys being able to work with highly motivated individuals every day to help them regain their independence through exercise.  He looks forward to pushing his clients everyday and helping them achieve their goals.

KELSEY SADLER

Activity Based Trainer

Kelsey is a graduate from the University of Arkansas with a BS in Kinesiology.  She is a certified strength and conditioning specialist through NSCA.  She has worked with people of all ages to improve their health and happiness through exercise.  Kelsey became interested in spinal cord injuries through her college courses and continues to learn everything she can about SCI's and how function is recovered.

DENNY EDDY

ASSISTANT

Denny has been working, as an assistant, at the center since 2008. After a family member experienced a spinal cord injury in 2005, he knew he wanted to help other people that were working towards recovery. He strives to continue to learn more about the recovery process, and is always willing to help clients whichever way he can.
